dog paws with black costume next to jack o lantern candy bucket

October has arrived! Heat up the apple cider and sharpen your pumpkin-carving knives because Halloween is just around the corner. Trick-or-treating may be canceled this year, but true Spooky Season stans never say no to a costume on Halloween. Here are our top ten dog costume picks for 2020:

1. Alexander Hamilton

In case you missed it, Hamilton was released on Disney+ July 3rd, 2020 and it is absolutely worth the hype. This modern Broadway production of the story of Alexander Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda took the internet by storm this summer (it even had its own branded hashtag on Twitter!). Don’t throw away your shot this Halloween to dress up your pup as this iconic character.

2. Baby Yoda

Another series that made the most-streamed list, not only on Disney+ but on the internet overall according to the Observer is The Mandalorian. With this addition to the Star Wars saga came another iconic character of 2020 – Baby Yoda. Who’s cuter? Baby Yoda or your dog? You shouldn’t have to choose. Combine their cuteness with these adorable Yoda ears from Chewy.com.

3. U.S. Mail Carrier

Earlier this year, federal funding for the United States Postal Service was blocked. The post office is important for so many reasons including, but not limited to, holiday presents, spontaneous online purchases, and mail-in voting. You can show your support for the post office by buying stamps and this costume from the USPS website!

4. Scooby-Doo

Jinkies, y’all! In May 2020, ‘Scoob!’ the newest animated reboot of the classic 1969 cartoon “Scooby-Doo” was released and the nostalgia is real. This fuzzy face is recognizable across many generations. Be sure to stock up on Scooby Snax when getting your pup into this get-up.

5. Spooky Scary Skeleton

Okay, so the Spooky Scary Skeleton dance trend is technically from 2019, but TikTok users are bringing it back in 2020 as well!

Who better to provide ultimate moral support than your best friend fur-ever as you try this dance? Get your pup in the spirit with this #spookyscaryskeleton outfit.

6. Pennywise

‘IT 2’ was released in September 2019, but Pennywise the clown remains a Halloween icon. This stupid clown is completely haunting. If your fam is more on the scary side of Halloween, this costume is a must. Warning: if you hear “Hiya Georgie!” while Fido is wearing this costume, remove immediately and dispose of it responsibly.

7. Wonder Woman

The latest addition to the Wonder Woman saga, Wonder Woman 1984, was released in summer 2020. Embrace your pooch’s ‘growl power’ with this adorable costume inspired by the original Wonder Woman from 1975 (note the stars on the skirt and iconic yellow ‘W’ on the back).

8. Cowboy

You caught me – this costume has absolutely no direct relevance to the year 2020. However, this is Texas, and cowboy costumes are always allowed. In fact, they’re encouraged. Yeehaw!

9. Pawlitician

Calling all Re-pup-licans and Dog-o-crats! As you’ve probably heard, 2020 is an election year. Whether at the next debate or at the polls, Rover will look his presidential-best with this patriotic suit (look at the tiny arms!). Oh, and don’t forget to vote.

10. Classic Pumpkin

This year, the notorious PSL from Starbucks was released on August 19th (the earliest it’s ever been released) and Dunkin released their version of PSL for the first time ever. We think that’s something to celebrate! For all the pumpkin-spice fanatics out there, why not complete your obsession by pumpkin spicing your pooch?
