This Dog Owner Profile is a part of our series featuring local dog owners in San Antonio, and is sponsored by Broadway Bank.

Name: John Ensminger

Occupation: Chief Information and Technology Officer, Broadway Bank

Dog’s Name & Breed: Sarah, Cocker Spaniel

Note:

This profile of John and his late beloved dog, Sarah, serves as a heartfelt tribute to their time together and underscores the profound connection shared with our canine companions. In her memory, we are reminded of the special joy that senior dogs bring into our lives. Adopting an older dog offers a unique opportunity to experience deep affection and gratitude. Let Sarah’s story inspire us to open our hearts to the love and wisdom of senior pets.

How did your dog become a part of your life?

We adopted Sarah from a rescue group that she had been with for 536 days. We currently have 3 senior rescues, Sarah (12yrs), Lady (12yrs) and Solo (10yrs). In addition, we have also adopted hospice rescues like Stu (13yrs) and Sherlock (14yrs). We focus on adopting senior and disability rescues that most people shy away from.

What makes your dog unique?

Sarah may not see or hear, but her affection is contagious and her smell is spot on!

What’s your favorite way to spoil your dog?

Giving Sarah rubs on her head and cheek while giving her treats.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being a dog owner for you?

The comfort our pups provide with their unconditional love and affection.

Tell us about your favorite thing to do with your dog in San Antonio.

Since our pups are seniors, they are homebodies, but we do occasionally take them to the park within our neighborhood.

An update from John:

We just adopted another homeless rescue in December. His name is Sullivan. He quickly adjusted to hanging out at San Antonio restaurant patios!
