We San Antonians love to #shopsmall, especially when we can shop for our dogs with our dogs. So my pup Luka and I set out to find some local dog shops to have some good fun at. Here are three fun, local San Antonio dog stores that we both enjoyed.

Mike’s Dog Store

This adorable store is located in the Sunset Ridge Shopping Center in Alamo Heights. Luka immediately loved this place! Just stepping in, the displays were cute and shop-able for not only humans but pups, too. The inventory was massive, and the owners were kind and inviting (Luka definitely scored some pets and treats).

Mike’s Dog Store carries everything from toys and treats, to pet care products. They even have a wide array of dog food to choose from. Some of our favorite products were their unique squeaky toys (shaped like margaritas, beer cans, and various drink cans/bottles), their beautifully embroidered dog collars, and our top pick: their imported dog bandanas. These handmade bandanas are crafted around an actual dog collar (so it’s safe to say they won’t be found flung across your backyard) and have pom poms stitched to the ends of them. They’re so festive and simply puro San Antonio! We had the best experience at Mike’s and can’t wait to go back.

PAWsitively Sweet Bakery

As soon as you open the door to PAWSitively Sweet Bakery, you’re hit with the smell of the sweets that they’re baking up in the back. This place had Luka going nuts the entire time – he was literally a kid in a candy store.

The only thing we loved more than the products were the staff and owners. Luka and I had the best time chatting with the shop owner, Esther, and her two daughters who work in the back, whipping up all of their delicious dog treats. The business is completely family-owned and operated. Within just a few minutes of being in the store, you can tell how much they love each other and the dogs that they get to create their work for.

Luka had a blast sniffing all of the treats, while also relentlessly trying to sneak off into the back kitchen. Our favorite picks from PAWS were the ready-made dog Birthday Cakes, their handmade bandanas (Luka found a cute Spurs one), and their emPAWnadas. We loved just how much our city culture shines through the bakery’s inventory and how much the owners’ passions shines through their work. Luka is excited to go back to see his new friends and grab another snack!

Southpaw Waggery

This dog store is located perfectly in the heart of Downtown San Antonio on the cutest street. The entire experience at Southpaw was just amazing! The walk up to the storefront was beautiful, the staff was friendly and so helpful, even the merchandise displays were an interactive experience!

Our favorite part about Southpaw though, were the local vendors that the store carries. From bandanas to doggy ponchos, Southpaw loves to support the artists who make our city uniquely beautiful. Luka had the best time trying on a doggie backpack, shopping the guayaberas, and trying out a new serape-print bandana.

Southpaw is the best place to find unique dog accessories while supporting our SA local vendors. We had an absolute blast exploring their storefront!

And that’s it for this roundup! I hope that you and your pup find a time to show up and support these awesome local businesses–I know we’ll definitely be back to visit all three!
