My two girls, Molly and Riley, are always by my side. I take them with me on every adventure, road trip, and even to get coffee. But working from home with your dogs is a completely new chapter in our lives.

Fur-Kids Or Co-Workers

We call them our fur-babies, our co-workers, even our fur-kids. But who knew they would really be acting like kids when they get our attention 24/7. As much as I traveled last year, and I traveled a lot, I do not mind being home right now, safe at home, as they say.

Are Dogs The New Toddlers

But wow, it is a challenge to get things done. My son is a grown man now, and I have not been around toddlers in quite some time. But my girls are the closest thing to having toddlers as I ever want to be. Coffee time in the morning is met with two little dogs on each side of me wanting to get under the blanket and fighting over who gets to sit on the left leg. Then there is play time, one thousand toys and they fight over the same toy, all the time. No matter what the toy is, a ball, a stuffed animal, even a piece of string the cat pulled out of the carpet, they will fight over it.

Keeping The House Clean

Do you know when it is time to vacuum? Every single day… I am constantly finding myself saying, what is in your mouth, or where did you get that? My favorite is, no, no, no, don’t you dare eat that.

All Visitors Are Enemies

Every knock on the door, squirrel in the yard, and bird flying by needs to be pointed out to me. And not with a subtle nudge on the arm and a “Hey look over there.” Oh no, it is a full out barking party of fun.

I have pillows in front of every window and windowed door so they can constantly be near me but watching for intruders. Learning how to work from home was not the hard part, learning how to work from home with your pets was.

Cookie Time

My husband works from home, but he is upstairs. He talks with customers and has meetings all day, so he needed a quieter environment, unlike the chaos that goes on downstairs.

Every day, and I do mean EVERY DAY, weekends are not excluded, the girls bark at any noise coming from upstairs when it gets close to 4 pm. That is the time my husband gets off work and comes downstairs for “Cookie Time.”

When he worked at the office, he would get home at approximately 4:30 every day. Molly and Riley would sit anxiously by the front door for his grand entrance and “cookie time.” This ritual has not only taken on a new time but happens every single day.

Positive Moments Of Working From Home With Your Dogs

Working from home with your pups has positive moments. Cuddle time in the afternoon with a hot cup of coffee and a treat. Or as we call it brain storming session time, you know, to justify the down time…

And at the end of the day, when all is said and done, I love being home with my pups Molly and Riley, all day, every day. I love that they give me kisses when I’m stressed. And I love that when I am trying to think of an answer to something, they look at me like I am the smartest, best person in the world.

Enjoy your pets, your fur-babies, or as I call them, my girls. Enjoy that wonderful extra time you get to spend with them. I promise, you won’t regret a minute of it.
