As dog-lovers, we all stress about the day when we take a vacation or work trip that will require leaving Mr. Paws behind. We want to make sure he’s taken care of, loved, and attended the same way or even better than we do while we’re gone. While there are many options in San Antonio, including dog sitters that can come to your home, you can also board Mr. Paws at a local ‘kennel’ in the area. Kennels have come a long way from the ones we remember hearing about just a few years back; as time has passed, we’re finding more kennels that are the equivalent to staying at a resort just for pups.
Dog Boarding Best Practices
Before making a reservation for Mr. Paws, a few best practices to consider are visiting the kennel before Mr. Paws’ stay. Most kennels now require an assessment (free of charge) to assure that Mr. Paws’ temperament is a good fit for the kennel and play area. The goal of these assessments is to ensure that there is no undue stress on the people and pet involved.
You’ll also want to take into consideration the level of activity that the facility offers, especially if your pet is accustomed to daily runs as opposed to simple playtime. Make sure to budget for the kennel of your choice that is the best fit for Mr. Paws, especially if he needs a bit more attention.
Some kennels will require or encourage you to bring your pet’s bed, toys, and/or food for comfort. It is best to assure Mr. Paws has a pleasant stay. Keep in mind, most if not all facilities will require a vaccination record or specific vaccinations to have been completed, spayed/neutered pets, and may also have age or breed restrictions.
