Are you one of those pet pawrents who likes to buy all the holiday presents for their dog? I’m definitely that person. Not only do I buy my dogs presents, but I leave them goodies in their stockings, too. This year, however, my goal is to find the perfect presents that don’t just make my dogs happy, but are also good for the environment, too! This means focusing on low or zero-waste packaging, eco-friendly materials, sustainable business practices, and items that can be recycled or composted at the end of their life.

Here are some of my top picks for eco-friendly gifts for the sustainable dog:

EarthDog is one of my favorite dog companies! Their hemp collars and leashes are incredibly durable and only get softer with wear. Furthermore, they are made with sustainable hemp and recycled plastic buckles. EarthDog also ships their products in plastic-free packaging, and the humans who run the business are genuinely some of the kindest people you will meet.

This small company out of Houston, TX is constantly working to reduce their carbon footprint. BakedBones offers high quality CBD treats and tinctures that are made in small batches by two totally rad humans. The treats themselves focus on wholesome, healthy ingredients, and their packaging is eco-friendly: kraft paper bags, recyclable cardboard tubes, tin, and even bags that look like plastic, but are actually compostable bags made from plants.

FoxMoth is a small business out of Arizona that focuses on sustainable and fashionable dog wear. Their prints are absolutely divine, and I love that you can choose either a tie-on style or snap on (my preference). They use all organic cotton or 100% linen fabrics that are printed with eco-friendly inks. Plus, their packaging consists of 100% recycled materials.

Supporting small, local businesses is a great step towards sustainability, so it’s nice that WestPaw—a B Corp company— can be found in a lot of pet stores around San Antonio! Plus, WestPaw puts a lot of thought and care into their business, from how they treat their employees to how they give back to the community. They choose eco-friendly materials and processes whenever they can, keeping waste out of landfills, chemicals out of soil and water, and toxins out of their products. Not only are their chews extremely durable, but their proprietary Zogoflex toys are infinitely recyclable! When the time comes to replace a Zogoflex toy, you can mail in the toy to be recycled into a brand new oneinfinitely!

This earth-friendly company has it all—collars, toys, jackets, beds, and more! Since they got started in 2009, Cycle Dog has focused on sustainability and taking care of the environment. Many of their products use recycled or upcycled materials, like their Ecoweave collars and leashes or their travel bowls. On top of that, Cycle Dog believes making durable products is important to stop the constant consumption that is harming our planet. They will actually repair their products, including their hand-sewn products, for the useful life of the product instead of throwing them out!

If you are looking to really elevate your dog’s home aesthetic, check out Whom. Their pet furniture, including dog beds and feeders, are absolutely stunning! Not only do they have an eco-friendly factory where they manufacture their goods, but they utilize sustainable practices like pulling polystyrene out of the ocean to recycle into their pieces. They also use materials that are clean and eco-friendly, from synthetic fabrics chosen for its durability and lighter carbon footprint, to hardwood that will stand the test of time. Plus, for each tree harvested, they place 40 trees in replacement.
