Summer in Texas is brutal, and what better way to beat the heat than with a big cup (or cone) of frozen deliciousness? As it turns out, there is an abundance of natural frozen treats your dog can enjoy to cool down in the summer sun. Try these recipes and pack them in the ice chest for the beach, lake, river, and any other dog-friendly summer hangout spot!
A couple of things to note when trying these recipes:
- Watermelon seeds and rinds are harmful to your dog’s health! Be sure and use cut and deseeded watermelon.
- Make sure that ingredients such as yogurt and peanut butter do not contain artificial sweeteners such as Xylitol or other added sugars.
- You can use ice trays or muffin tins for these frozen treats. If you’re feeling extra creative, try various shaped silicone molds!
Watermelon and Yogurt Frozen Dog Treats
You can find a variety of nutrients and minerals in watermelon such as Vitamins A, B6, and C and Potassium. These help boost your dog’s immune system, energy, and muscle function. Plain non-fat yogurt can be a great source of calcium and aid in digestion. However, not all dogs process dairy well, so be sure to consult your vet to determine which yogurt is right for your dog, if any.
