Howdy hey, fellow dog lovers! National Dog Day isn’t just another day on the calendar; it’s our chance to really shout out about the unconditional love and endless joy our furry friends bring to our lives.

Think about it—from your very first dog who stole your heart to the newest furball in your life, each one of them is a bundle of love and friendship on four paws.

National Dog Day is celebrated on August 26th to honor the bond between humans and dogs and to encourage dog adoption.

The date was specifically chosen by animal welfare advocate and pet lifestyle expert, Colleen Paige, to commemorate the day her family first adopted their dog “Sheltie” when Colleen was 10 years old. Colleen is also the founder of National Puppy Day.

The primary goal of this special day is to raise awareness about the need for rescuing and protecting dogs from homelessness and abuse, as well as to acknowledge and celebrate the enormous range of ways in which dogs contribute to our lives—whether as working dogs, family pets, or loyal companions.

The day serves as a reminder of the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and offers an opportunity for people to consider adopting a dog from our hardworking rescue centers.

To help commemorate the day, we’ve put together a list of our favorite dog quotes. These gems really hit home about the amazing love and strong connection we share with our pups.

We hope these give you the warm fuzzies (just like our sweet doggos do), and that you and your pup have a very happy National Dog Day.
