We’re all about taking our pups to the farmers market, happy hour, and even the bookstore, but there’s nothing quite like letting Fido run free. Fortunately there are a number of off-leash dog parks in San Antonio––and we’re rounding them all up right here for you! 1. The Bark Park of Alamo Heights | 103 La Jara Blvd, Alamo Heights, TX 78209
Located near the baseball fields in Alamo Heights, this local favorite features one large fenced park for both large and small dogs, as well as a fountain where hot pups can take a dip.
2. Lady Bird Johnson Dog Park | 10700 Nacogdoches, SATX 78217
This 1.2 acre park features separate areas for small and large dogs, as well as agility equipment. Enjoy a walk on the .6-mile loop around Lady Bird Park when you’re done off-leash.
3. Madison Square Dog Park | 400 Lexington, San Antonio, TX 78215
Madison Square Park is located in downtown San Antonio and features a .65 acre dog park with a combined large and small dog area. Comes complete with a doggy water fountain and benches for the humans who need a rest from chasing after their pups.

Another dog park option in downtown San Antonio. This one-acre dog park includes fenced sections for all dogs and small dogs, drinking fountain with a pet fountain, and mutt mitt dispensers. Additional park amenities include new picnic tables and seating, landscaping, a Portland Loo restroom, and trash and recycle bins.
5. McAllister Park | 8418 Buckhorn Rd, San Antonio, TX 78247
Located just north of the airport, the McAllister dog park features both fenced large and small dog areas over 1.5 acres. Plus there’s a great loop path in the large dog area so humans can get their walk in, too.
6. Nani Falcone Park | 8716 Mystic Park, San Antonio, TX 78254
One of the city’s newest dog parks, Nani Falcone dog park has both small and large fenced dog areas, along with agility equipment and large rocks for dogs to climb on.
7. New Territories Dog Park | 9023 Bowen, San Antonio, TX 78250
The New Territories dog park has both small and large dog fenced areas over .25 acres, and the dog park entrance is located near the park’s main entrance.
8. Panther Springs Park | 22635 Wilderness Oak, San Antonio, TX 78260
Enjoy 1.5 acres of fenced heaven for large and small dogs. Dog park entrance located near the park’s main entrance.
9. Paw Park at The Greenline | 2532 Sidney Brooks, San Antonio, TX 78235

Located at The Greenline, the dog park features separate areas for large and small dogs, water foundations, canopies, and nearly two dozen new trees.
10. Pearl Dog Spot | The Historic Pearl, 602 Avenue A, San Antonio, TX 78215
Although not a large off-leash park, the Pearl Dog Spot is a great place to let your pup get the wiggles out before strolling through the farmer’s market.
11. Pearsall Dog Park | 4700 Old Pearsall Road, San Antonio, TX 78242
The Pearsall dog park features 1.5 acres of fenced fun for large and small dogs––and the main park has spectacular views from the large hill trail repurposed from a former landfill.
12. Phil Hardberger Park East | 13203 Blanco Rd., San Antonio, TX 78216
A favorite for locals, Phil Hardberger Park features two off leash dog parks. This park at the East entrance features 1.8 acres of fun, including a two-story dog house in the small dog area.
13. Phil Hardberger Park West | 8400 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78230
Another great dog park at Phil Hardberger Park, the West entrance park features a 1.5 acre dog park with agility equipment.
14. Southside Lions Dog Park | 3303 Pecan Valley Dr San Antonio, TX 78210
Southside Lions Park is a true city gem! The lake at the east entrance to the park is perfect for a morning or evening walk with your pup. The dog park itself is tucked away by the Senior Center just down the road with separate areas for large and small dogs.
15. Tom Slick Dog Park | 7400 Hwy 151 San Antonio, TX 78227
The 1-acre dog park at Tom Slick Park features separate areas for large and small dogs, with shade structures and a doggie shower. There’s a second dog enclosure at the Timber Creek entrance, but the real local favorite is the pond at the center of the park where doggies love to take a little dip.
16. Universal City Dog Park | 134 Athenian Dr, Universal City, TX 78148
Located right by 1604 & I35 in Universal City, this 1.3 acre dog park features separate play areas for both small and large dogs, as well as shade structures and park benches.
17. Woodlawn Lake Dog Park | 115 Alexander Ave, SATX 78201
Located near the fishing pond at Woodlawn Lake Park, this dog park is for dogs of all sizes and is a perfect stop for letting your dog off leash before hitting the trails around the lake.

City Dog Park Rules
San Antonio Parks & Rec runs most of the dog parks listed above. Read below for their city dog park rules, and be sure to read the signs posted at any park you visit with your pup!
- Use of dog parks is at citizens’ own risk
- Dog owners/handlers are responsible for the actions and behavior of their dogs at all times.
- Park hours are 5 a.m. To 11 p.m., seven days a week.
- There is a limit of two dogs per adult in the dog park at any time.
- All dogs must be leashed when entering and leaving the dog park.
- All dogs must have current rabies and all other vaccinations required by the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District and should be healthy and free of any diseases.
- Dogs must wear collars and current license tags in the park.
- Dogs in heat are prohibited.
- Dogs under 4 months of age are prohibited.
- Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Dog owners/handlers are responsible for picking up and disposing of all of their dogs’ waste.
- Never leave dogs unattended.
- Dog owners/handlers must be in possession of a leash at all times.
- Dogs showing any signs of aggression must be leashed and immediately removed from the dog park.
- No food or drinks are permitted in the dog park. Training treats are allowed.
- Glass containers are not allowed in the park.
- No bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades or motorized vehicles are allowed in the dog park

San Antonio has some pretty sweet dog parks. My dog and I have been to each of these, except for that new territories, I have no idea what that is.
There are also several others we have found, including one at the Pearl, which is fairly small and hard to find. It looks better than it used to, with pea gravel covering the dirt and a water feature.
One of my other favs that is never on anyone’s list is the Whiskey Bark Park at Rebecca Creek Distillery. You can grab a drink, listen to live music, or play bags while the pups have some fun.
One question though – why are these referred to as “off leash”? Are there on leash dog parks here that I don’t know about?

We referred to these as off-leash parks because although most parks in San Antonio are dog-friendly, not all of them are off-leash and that’s a specific term people frequently search for online. We wanted to ensure our readers that all of the dog parks listed here are, in fact, off-leash.
No worries! It’s great for pups to have places to run apart from the backyard. We all know that the law requires dogs be on leash in most areas, but has anyone been fined for having their dog off leash? I’ll have to look into it!
Maybe we will run into each other at one of these parks someday? There are more than a few. I think San Antonio may try to rival some of its neighbors in dog friendliness.
